General Principles
The Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine building is a shared academic facility serving University of Utah students, faculty, staff, and authorized affiliates. All users are expected to respect fellow building occupants, care for shared spaces, and follow University policies. Room use that disrupts the learning or working environment of others is prohibited.
The University reserves the right to revoke access privileges for any individual or group that violates these policies. Persistent violations may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct or Human Resources, as appropriate.

Study Rooms
Study Room Policies
- Open to all currently enrolled UoU students, faculty, and staff with a valid uNID.
- Reservations limited to 2 hours per booking; extensions permitted if no conflict.
- Maximum of 3 active reservations per uNID at any time.
- Reserved rooms released for walk-in use 15 minutes after reservation start if unoccupied.
- Food and beverages permitted with covered containers. No catered meals.
- Whiteboards must be erased and furniture returned to original configuration before departure.
- Commercial tutoring, paid coaching, or non-University activities are prohibited.
Conference Rooms
Conference Room Policies
- Available to faculty, staff, and authorized research personnel only.
- Maximum 8 hours per group per day; back-to-back bookings on the same day are permitted.
- Rooms must be vacated within 10 minutes of the reservation end time.
- Food and beverages permitted. Space must be left clean; dishes and catering remnants removed.
- Cancel at least 4 hours in advance to avoid a no-show record.
- Divisible rooms must be reserved as whole rooms or in designated half-room configurations only.
Lecture Halls & Event Spaces
Lecture Hall & Event Space Policies
- For-credit courses receive first priority during academic scheduling periods.
- All other reservations require a minimum 2-week advance notice via the Scheduling Office.
- AV pre-check is mandatory for all events in LH-100 (Atwood Auditorium).
- Catering must be arranged separately; food is permitted in lecture halls with pre-approval.
- External organizations must have an executed Facility Use Agreement on file before booking.
- Room must be restored to default layout after every event. Furniture rearrangement must be pre-approved.
Computer Labs
Computer Lab Policies
- Open-access during posted lab hours; UCard required for after-hours entry to CL-650.
- No food or beverages of any kind in computer lab areas.
- Print jobs over 50 pages require prior approval from the IT Helpdesk.
- Unauthorized software installation is prohibited. Use the Software Center for approved applications.
- Sessions left unattended for more than 20 minutes may be terminated by lab staff.
- Storage of files on local workstations is not guaranteed. Use university-managed storage (OneDrive, Box).

Code of Conduct in Shared Spaces
Maintain noise levels appropriate for the space type (quiet zones are strictly enforced)
Dispose of all waste properly; recycling bins are provided on every floor
Do not prop open secured doors or share UCard access with non-authorized individuals
Report safety concerns, maintenance issues, or policy violations to Building Services
Photography or recording in clinical areas requires express permission from the SFESOM office
Silence phones during lectures, clinical sessions, and other scheduled academic events
